Ubisoft and Screen Juice Announce Morbid Metal’s Early Access Launch for Summer 2025

Ubisoft and Screen Juice have announced that the highly anticipated Morbid Metal, a hack-and-slash action roguelite title, will be available in early access on Steam during the summer of 2025. The announcement was made during the Triple-I-Initiative showcase, where a new one-minute gameplay trailer was presented, giving fans a glimpse of the fast-paced action and dynamic mechanics that will define the game.

Morbid Metal allows players to form a team of up to three characters, each with a unique set of moves. The game allows free-form switching between characters, adding a strategic layer to the gameplay. With each death, the player must restart their journey, but they can unlock new characters and permanent upgrades along the way, making each attempt one step closer to victory.

The story of Morbid Metal takes place in a simulation created by humanity to escape climate collapse. The player assumes the role of an AI (Artificial Intelligence), tasked with becoming humanity’s next evolutionary step by eliminating other AIs to prove they are the best and strongest.

Felix Schade, the creator and game director of Screen Juice, began developing Morbid Metal in 2017 independently. After releasing early gameplay footage online, Schade received positive feedback from the gaming community, which helped shape the game's evolution and its original concept. In 2023, he founded Screen Juice, continuing his work as the project lead.

"If it hadn't been for the initial response from the gaming community, I probably would have given up on developing Morbid Metal," said Felix Schade. "This game has come a long way, and I'm excited to launch the early access this summer to get more feedback from the community that supported this project and reignited my passion."

Anne Blondel Jouin, Vice President of Open Innovation Accelerator at Ubisoft, also expressed enthusiasm for the project. "Felix's unique vision and collaboration with the community drew us in immediately," said Anne. "We are excited to bring this game to audiences worldwide this summer on PC."

Morbid Metal will be released in early access exclusively on Steam during the summer of 2025. The game can already be added to the wishlist on the platform.
