When Nintendo was still in the 8-bit diaper, the SEGA Mega Drive I hit like a bomb! 850 titles appeared for the black graphics machine, including the popular Sonic the Hedgehog parts and countless grandiose arcade conversions. The 16-bit processor with 7.6 MHz enabled unprecedented graphic splendor and was very compatible with SEGA's arcade boards. It's not for nothing that the English slogan of the console baptized " SEGA Genesis " in America was "Genesis does what Nintendon't". The most successful game with 6 million units sold is the second part of the Sonic series "Sonic the Hedgehog 2", whose hero has been the SEGA mascot ever since. The SEGA Mega Driveexperienced during its lifetime 2 upgrades through the Mega CD and the 32x contributed the CD functionality and 32 bit graphics. Ultimately, the SEGA Mega Drive lost the 16-bit war against Nintendo's Super Nintendo, but is still considered the "cooler" console and has a firm place in the hearts of retro fans. In Brazil, the SEGA Mega Drive was even more popular until 1998. With its additional headphone output and volume control and the flashy "16-BIT" lettering, the SEGA Mega Drive I is slightly larger than its successor model, but it exudes a lot of retro charm.
